Androscoggin Valley Hospital (AVH) is always thrilled to celebrate our employees’ achievements and we’re happy to announce Ginger Laverty, ARRT(R)(M)(BD), Lead Mammography Technologist, has earned advanced certification in the field of Bone Densitometry. As the first member of AVH Imaging to earn the Bone Densitometry certification, Ginger’s preparation throughout her certification process has helped uplift the whole team’s quality performance.
According to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, “healthy and strong bones are essential for keeping active, especially as people grow older. If someone is at risk of low bone density or osteoporosis, or shows signs of subtle bone loss, doctors must be able to verify the condition before making treatment recommendations.” Bone density testing is used to help providers evaluate a patient’s bone health and inform treatment options, such as medication and lifestyle changes. A properly skilled technologist can produce very accurate exams that can be compared over time to determine the need for, or the effectiveness of, any treatments used.
