City of Berlin issued the following announcement on September 3.

The City of Berlin, NH, (pop. 10,221), is conducting a search for a City Manager to replace a Manager who has served for over eight years. Berlin is an outdoor-person’s paradise situated just north of New Hampshire’s White Mountains along the Androscoggin River. It provides quick access to some of New England’s best hunting, fishing, hiking, climbing, boating, snowmobiling, “ATVing” and skiing/boarding. The City is proud of its logging and paper-making past but today is a City which is rebuilding its economic base to include renewable energy, tourism, correctional services, manufacturing and other small businesses. We are home to the States northern most college; White Mountains Community College. The City is a full-service community with approximately 120 full-time and 140 part-time city employees not counting the dependent School District or the Berlin Water Works. The departments reporting to the City Manager include the Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Wastewater Collection and Treatment, Fire, Planning, Finance, Assessing, City Clerk, Library, Welfare, Health, Housing and Code Enforcement. The Police Department reports to an appointed Police Commission and the Airport reports to an Airport Authority. The dependent School District reports to an elected School Board with its own Superintendent. The Berlin Water Works is a separate commission which operates the water department. The City Manager communicates and coordinates with all of these departments regularly.  The City Manager also works closely with the Berlin Industrial Development and Park Authority which operates as an Enterprise Fund. The City Manager is hired by and reports to the 9-member Mayor and Council. The position requires familiarity and knowledge of local government in New England and a minimum of four years significant progressively responsible local government management or equivalent experience. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
