PORTSMOUTH – New Hampshire Art Association photographer Howard Muscott will be a featured artist in April at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery.
His exhibit titled, “All Things Owl in New England Habitats,” showcases his fascination for owls.
“Fortunately, New England in general, and New Hampshire in particular, have an excellent habitat for these magnificent creatures in every season,” Muscott said.
“In ‘All Things Owl’, I try to immerse the viewer in images of these mighty birds of prey within local natural habitats on dunes, in forests, and in the sky. My hope is that the images encourage a personal connection to one of nature’s most beautiful and intelligent raptors, inspiring one to want to treasure and protect them as much as I do.”
Muscott has photographed nature, landscapes and wildlife for more than 45 years. Grounded in his early years of hiking, backpacking, and mountain climbing, his love for nature photography is fueled by the exquisite beauty of the natural world and the wildlife residing within their various landscapes.
“The ideal photograph tells a story that speaks directly and profoundly to the heart while moving the mind to self-reflection and advocacy,” he said.
Self-taught, Howard has had more than 30 individual and 50 group shows highlighting among other things nature, autumn colors, Southwestern peoples and light, the mountains of Alaska, Colorado and the Pacific Northwest, Owls, Costa Rica, and Kenya. Howard’s work has been published on the cover of national journals in education, in newspapers and books, and used on educational and other websites.
Howard is a lifelong special educator and retired professor who directs the New Hampshire Center for Effective Behavioral Interventions and Supports at SERESC in Bedford, New Hampshire
Muscott is holding a special reception Saturday, April 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Levy Gallery
The reception will feature Jane Kelly from “On the Wing NH” and one or two of her owl ambassadors from 1 to 2 p.m. Kelly, a licensed Wildlife Educator and Rehabilitator, created “On the Wing” 12 years ago out of her home in Epping and the rest is herstory.
Over the years, “On the Wing” has grown into a well-established and highly respected educational advocacy organization sharing a passion for wildlife with young and old, rehabilitating raptors back to health, and bringing joy throughout New Hampshire and beyond.
Muscott is donating 5 percent to “On the Wing with every piece of his art sold during the exhibition.
