Town of Gorham seeks Town Clerk/Tax Collector
& Deputy Town Clerk/Tax Collector
The Town of Gorham seeks a qualified resident of Gorham to serve as Town Clerk/Tax Collector, which is a full-time, salaried position. The Town also seeks a qualified resident of Gorham to serve as Deputy Town Clerk/Tax Collector, which is a part-time position that supports the Town Clerk/Tax Collector. The Town’s goal is to appoint replacements as soon as possible so training can begin immediately.
The successful candidates will have: strong customer services skills, be well organized and pay high attention to detail, experience in banking/bookkeeping/retail or a similar industry that included handling money and making bank deposits, an ability to work well under pressure, and a willingness to work collaboratively with other Town departments.
The primary duties of the Town Clerk/Tax Collector are to process motor vehicle registrations, maintain Town/State vital and other official records, license dogs, and play a major role in the Town, State, and Federal election process. The Deputy Town Clerk/Tax Collector provides support to the Town Clerk/Tax Collector in the above-mentioned duties and serves as Town Clerk in the absence of the Town Clerk.
The Town Clerk/Tax Collector position receives a salary, is projected to require at least 40 hours of work per week, and as an elected official receives a benefits package. The Deputy Town Clerk/Tax Collector is a part-time position for roughly 28 hours per week, receives prorated Sick and Vacation benefits, and is paid on an hourly basis.
